8th Game of 2022 Live: 7 Years of Rain
I just released "7 Years of Rain"! This is a short 5 minute walking sim about a girl who has moved to a new place, and is trying to find joy.
My goal for this month was to do another 3D game, since I had done my first one last month with Star Ranger. I also wanted to try out the Corgi Engine, apparently the best 2D sidescroller engine out there for Unity. I learned a lot but there is so much more this puppy (pun intended) can do! I want to do a handful of sidescrolling games so I can keep pushing this.
My wife read this story by Ray Bradbury that it's based on in school. It was very memorable and struck her as very sad.
I tried using a lot of public assets for this one: low poly pack for the models and animations, and I got the music off of Envato. I think the atmosphere came together well. My brother playtested it and said "Wow this is the best looking game you've made so far!" which surprised me.
I also started tracking my time investment this month into indie game time. I get time to work on these projects at night after the kids have gone to bed, and according to my charts I can get about 20 hours a month, or about 5 hours a week. I'd like to push this up a bit to 30 hours.
That's a wrap! I'll continue next month with my next game, still shooting for 12 games in 12 months!
