Rip Tide Racer is Live!

Coopal00ps and I are thrilled to release Rip Tide Racer, our March 2022 game! This game concept was making an 8-bit de-make of the old game Wave Race 64.  I always loved that game and the sound track, so this was fun to pay homage to it.

A NES Tribute

We are huge fans of the original Nintendo Entertainment system, so much so that we used a strict NES color palette, sound effects, and even made our own NES Box Art for the game in the style of old games:

Focus on the core

After our last game in February, one of the big lessons we learned was around focus: figuring out what the core part of the game is, and then spending extra time on that so that it's really fun and solid. I heard one time that the Super Mario Galaxy team focused for years on Mario running and jumping around on a ball, making sure that was perfect. It's so easy to get distracted and move on to other things. We could have added rings to jump through, coins to grab, tricks to do, etc. And while those would have been fun, it was more important to spend a ton of time on the basics: accelerating and flipping, to make sure that sang.
